A self help book goes a long way. If you trace my involvement with computers you will see it goes right to a few books. I might have read 3 or 4 of Aubrey Pilgrim's books on how to build a PC. Each time a new processor came out, Aubrey wrote a new book. These self help books were not totally new material. However, each new edition came with the key information the do it yourselfer needs to do it himself! So I bought one after the other. Soon I became confident I could assemble all the Pentiums if I can do the other. They were coming out every six months or so, anyway. So what started with one self help book, grew into three information technology (IT) certifications. Today, I am proud of my prowess as a certified IT personnel. Do it yourself books and kits are really cool tools to use to create employment opportunities. You just have to have the interest in something, like I had (and still have) in computers. You might have a hobby, or you might just be interested in learning a new skill. Just grab a self help book and help yourself. You will can even find digital audio books and even learning materials in other digital format. A DVD presentation of a course might just be what you need to relax in front of 3 days per week for a few weeks to learn something new. And now that you can integrate multimedia in digital products sold on the web, it raises the preference in some categories over the paper versions. E-books can have sound and animation and this makes them more attractive than paperbacks. Now with portable handheld (PDA's), e-books are nothing to carry around.
